A short and hyped trailer with a scream.
Fire Starter
The trailer kicks off things with more scenes from the Nibelheim Incident. Cloud is standing back up while Sephiroth is ravaging the village. Sephiroth see a man with gun and approaches him. Considering Sephiroth’s strength, you can guess the outcome of this short skirmish.
Cloud looks on with sadness and shock. Sephiroth walks through the fire. FFVIII veterans have seen this fiery iconic scene in the OG. And we have seen Sephiroth slaughter the villagers before.
Seeing all of these scenes in HD evokes more emotive reactions. Seeing Sephiroth walking through the fire in HD is glorious. Yet, the scene is terrifying at the same time. And Sephiroth is just getting started.
All About Sephiroth
Midgar is in ruins. The city is being torn by the Whisper tornado. Citizens are running for safety from the chaos. Shinra soldiers are riding through while debris is falling all around them.
Zack asks, “What happens to this place?” And Tifa answers, “It was Sephiroth" in another scene. So far we can guess this trailer is all about Sephiroth. Sephiroth is causing havoc around the world. In turn, the party goes chasing after him.
Cloud states that Sephiroth wants to finish what he started. And rule the planet. While our hero is stating Sephiroth’s mission, Sephiroth is brandishing his sword. The whispers are flying in the background.
Sephiroth absorbed the whispers in the final battle of Remake. So, who the heck knows what he is up to? However, having the Whispers at his beck and call is a terrfying prospect.
Starboard Junon
The upper part of Junon is now called Starboard Junon. Starboard Junon is the upper part of Junon. It is similar to how the upper plates of Midgar were the higher class counterparts to the slums below.
Roche’s Return
More importantly, preparations for the Rufus’s parade are underway. Starboard Junon is beset by two large formations of Shinra soldiers. However, Roche has spotted briefly in the shot. Roche is riding on his motorcycle coming out of a tunnel.
Is Roche back?! There’s only one owner of that souped up red bike. And that is Roche. Wonder how things will play out with Roche in Rebirth? Will he and Cloud continue their rivalry from Remake?
Midgar Zolom
Next, we seen the party getting ready for a fight. Cloud shouts,”Let’s get to work.” And the party’s opponent is the infamous Midgar Zolom. Cloud is briefly seen taking the gigantic snake while it is breathing fire.
Midgar Zolom was a powerful boss early on in the OG. It was so strong that the party had to catch a chocobo in order to cross the marshlands. Chocobos were the only mode of transportation fast enough to outrun the giant lethal snake.
Considering how strong the Midgar Zolom was in original. I could only imagine how crazy of a fight this one is going to be in Rebirth. And a lot of boss fights in Remake was been crazy yet memorable encounters.
Cloud’s Scream
Now we get to the most shocking scene in the teaser. Tifa is falling into a mako pool. And Cloud screams her name as she descends!
This one was a heart wrenching scream! I have to give Cody Christian major credit for that scream. It not only sent chills down my spine. But it made me worry about Tifa.
I didn’t think nothing would top Sora’s scream in KH3. When I first heard Sora’s scream, it really got me in the feels. Also, the scream made me think what the hell is going to happen in the final battle.
Now I am worried about Tifa. I hoping it is nothing and Tifa will be alright. After all, Cloud would be screwed without her beyond Rebirth.
A New Weapon
As Tifa falls, a new weapon resurfaces. The new weapon has a design that I have never seen before. It seems to be rising out of a pool of mako. The mako pool appears to be in the abandoned reactor of Gonzaga.
In the original game, Gonzaga was a small village with a ruined reactor. The only story bits in the reactor involved Scarlet. Scarlet arrived from a helicopter to investigate the reactor for huge materia. But her search was fruitless.
This small scene was foreshadowing the story arc involving huge materia. This arc occurs much later in the game after Gonzaga. However, Tifa’s fall and this mysterious new weapon suggests that things are going to play out differently in Gonzaga.
Reaction
I did not find the trailer to have any major spoilers. I am glad because I don’t want see major spoilers. Square Enix has gotten better with their marketing. So, it was a good little trailer.
Although, I would be lying if my heartbeat is steady now. After Cloud’s scream, my heart is pounding in my chest. It will probably remain that way for a while.
What about your heart? I hope it’s okay after that trailer. Let me know your feeling in the comments below.
