A crossover comprised of two legendary Final Fantasies!

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is having a crossover with Final Fantasy VI! Before FFVII launched in 1997, Final Fantasy VI was lauded as the best Final Fantasy ever. Final Fantasy VI was Sakaguchi’s ultimate FF masterpiece as the game was the highest evolution for Final Fantasy VI. The highest evolution of the pixel art graphics, the story, the characters, and the progression systems were presented in Final Fantasy VI.

While Final Fantasy VII put the franchise on the map, Final Fantasy VI was a beloved and excellent game. It's a game that captures the hearts of many FF fans. Even though Final Fantasy VII was my first FF game. Thus, it would be my favorite FF and game if I told that FFVI was my first exposure to Final Fantasy.

As a little kid, I would watch my dad play Final Fantasy VI. I was enthralled with Final Fantasy VI. Although, I never played the game myself later in life. But FFVI left an incredible impression on me and it still does to this day.

I didn’t begin my journey with Final Fantasy until FFVII. FFVII was the beginning of my journey through Final Fantasy. And I am glad I started with FFVII because it has hugely shaped my life. But I am ever grateful to Final Fantasy VI for being my first exposure to this beloved series. In essence, I am ecstatic that my two Final Fantasies are having a crossover.

The Costumes

Cloud’s costume is based on Locke and Cloud looks super cool in this outfit. And I digging the sword that Cloud wields with his Locke-inspired costume. I could see Cloud as a thief, even though he’s more of a warrior type of character.

Tifa is dressed as Sabin. Honestly, I like this costume for Tifa. I know that a lot of people are not feeling her Sabin-inspired costume. Thus, they would rather see Tifa in Celes-based costume which I am totally in favor of. Since I love Celes! I don’t see Tifa as a magical fighter.

So, Tifa wearing the garb of another monk character doesn’t bother me. Plus, Tifa can launch Sabin’s energy blast. And Sabin’s energy blast is a nod to the Kamehameha Wave from Dragonball. So, I love the reference there! It is the best part of Tifa’s Sabin outfit in my opinion.

Young Sephiroth is wearing Edgar’s garb. While Sephiroth looks awesome in Edgar’s outfit, the two couldn’t be any more different when it comes to personality and story. The only common thing that the two share is that they were both a leader of men. Edgar was a king and Sephiroth was a legendary soldier and hero.

Edgar helps the resistance and helps save the world. Sephiroth becomes a legendary hero but becomes a tragic fallen villain. Now I could be reading too much into this, but maybe the developers were highlighting the similarities and differences between the two. Or Sephiroth could be a dark version of Edgar if the Figaro ever went down a similar path to Sephiroth.

The costume I adore the most is Aerith’s Terra-inspired costume. Aerith looks as beautiful as Terra. More importantly, Aerith’s costume is a perfect match for her!

Aerith and Terra are the most powerful and magical heroines of their respective universes. They are both human, magical hybrids. Aerith is half Cetra and human. Terra is a cross between a human and an Esper. Espers are summons in Final Fantasy VI and they played a huge role in the FFVI’s story. The Cetra is an extremely vital race in the world of FFVII.

Both main heroines are charged with a burden that has major implications in their worlds. And they are the driving force in the stories of their respective worlds. Also, Terra has always been the first female protagonist in Final Fantasy. Cloud may be the protagonist of FFVII, but Aerith is equally as important to FFVII.

Kefka

Of course, you can’t have Final Fantasy VI without Kefka. The iconic, murderous villain acts as the final boss of the crossover.  The crossover is an original story with Kefka as the main subject. Of course, Dancing Mad, Kefka’s infamous boss theme, will have a new rendition when Cloud and the party face off against him.

Before Sephiroth, Kefka was hailed as the greatest villain of Final Fantasy. Kefka is regarded as one of the greatest villains of FF. This recognition extends to the gaming world too.

Final Thoughts

I am happy that these two Final Fantasies. I love these two FFs! Terra is one of my favorite heroines in FF. And she’s one of my favorite heroines in gaming just like Aerith. Of course, I loved Aerith and Terra! SE bringing two beloved heroines together in a crossover is awesome! I would love to have more crossovers with Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VI!
