A New Mario Kart Too?!
First, let me apologize to Nate the Hate for prematurely doubting him. He was right about Nintendo revealing the Switch 2 last Thursday. After months of endless speculation and leaks, Nintendo has finally unveiled the Switch!
The Switch 2 was revealed during a cool trailer that showed the original evolving into Switch 2. The design of the Switch 2 is a bigger, sleeker version of the current Switch. The color scheme is all black with red and blue highlights on the Joy-Cons. The Joy-Cons can also be used as a computer mouse as they slide.
The new Switch has a bigger screen, bigger Joy-Cons which can now magnetically connect to the console, and a bigger kickstand. There are two USB-C ports. These features are already huge improvements for the original Switch.
Mario Kart 9?!
The Switch 2 showed a short gameplay video of a new Mario Kart. We called this one called Mario Kart 9. Currently, the Switch 2’s true specs are still unknown, Mario Kart 9 gave a glimpse of what this evolved Switch 2 can do.
Ground textures, lighting, and shadows were rendered with greater detail. Mario Kart 9 didn’t have any visible lag or frame rate issues. This suggests that Switch’s performance will be massive.
The power of Switch 2 suggests that we have 24 racers in Mario Kart 9! That is insane! But having 24 racers means the Switch 2 will be much more powerful than the original Switch. That is something we all wanted.
Backward Compatibility
The Switch 2 will backward compatibility. We will be able to play our games from the original. However, there is a catch. Some games from the original Switch will not be compatible with the Switch 2. Nintendo did not specify which games there were.
Personally, I will be content with the Switch 2 if I can play Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Tears of the Kingdom, and the most recent Pokemon games on it. Especially Pokemon Scarlet and Violet since their performances were awful on the original Switch.
An Underwhelming Reveal?!
Was the teaser reveal an underwhelming one? I would say, yes. But the original Switch was dominant and popular for the last 8 years. The original Switch even surpassed the Playstation 2 in overall sales. So, does Nintendo need to reinvent the wheel again?
No, they don’t. More importantly, we don’t know what this new console can do. Regardless, I am just happy that Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2. It sucks that Nintendo won’t give us more details until the Switch 2 Direct. Despite the long wait, I am eager to learn more about the Switch 2 and to play it.
