Persona 5: Phantom X’s Heart Stealing Test Starts on January 16th.

A new trailer dropped for Phantom X’s 3rd Beta Test.

The upcoming Persona 5: Phantom X will be having its 3rd Beta Test on January 16th. The beta test will be called the “Heart Stealing Test.” The Heart Stealing Test will run from January 16th to the 31st. And it will be in China. Registration will be available until January 12th.

Phantom X is a spin off in the Persona 5 franchise. The game is being developed by Black Wing Games Studio while it is being published by Perfect World Games. Sega has authorized the Phantom X while Altus is deeply involved in the making of Phantom X. So far, Phantom X will be on IOS, Android and PC.

A new trailer was posted. The trailer announced the Heart Stealing Test. And it showed a lot of gameplay and story elements too. I will be breaking down the things that stood out in the trailer.

Daily Life

Next, we get scenes of Wonder living his normal life. Like Ren, the original protagonist of Persona 5, Wonder is student by day. He is seen playing soccer on the school. He also participates in rhythm mini game with his classmates. The rhythmic mini game has various songs from the Persona series.

Wonder is spending time with a few confidants. Some of these confidants are presumably some of Wonder’s teammates. One of them is Riko Tanemura. And the other is Tomoko Noge, who is best friends with Motoha Arai.

Phantom Thievery

The new phantom thieves are seen traversing around the palaces. And they are fighting the shadows of Takeyuki Kiuchi and Miyazawa Hiromu. Takeyuki Kiuchi has a grudge with Moroha Arai due to an embarrassing incident that occurred when Arai was a child.

Because of the incident and another one involving Kiuchi hitting on a woman, Kiuchi’s career as a baseball was upended. As a result, his hates all women especially Arai. To avenge his fallen career, he hits on women in the train station and hurts them. He is seen he going after an innocent woman. While Arai looks on with freight.

He goes after Arai especially because he hates her the most. Seeking to ruin her life.  Kiuchi goes as far to push Arai’s best friend, Tomoko Noge, on the train tracks. Luckily, the young girl’s shoulder is the only damage caused.

Naturally, Wonder, Ruferu, and Closer battle against Kiuchi in his demon form. Despite some major differences, the Kiuchi arc will be similar to Kamoshida. And I freaking hated Kamoshida. Especially after he did to Shiho, Ann Takamaki’s best friend. I am hoping that I get the chance to kick Kiuchi’s ass too.

The group seen fighting a demonic form of Hiromu. Hiromu’s shadow form and palace having a funky, feudal Japanese aesthetic. The demonic Hiromu is seen cutting through the scene as the logo for Phantom X appears. Bringing us to the end of the trailer.

Joker and Wonder

The final thing that stood out to me in the trailer is Joker and Wonder. In a familiar opening scene of Persona 5, we see Joker struggling. And the person Joker is struggling against is Wonder? Yes, Wonder, the protagonist of Phantom X. And Wonder proceeds to finish off a weaken Joker?!

What does this mean? Are Joker and Wonder rivals? Are they enemies? You see from are couple visual art pieces that Joker and Wonder are at odds with each other?

Currently, we have no idea what’s going on. And if this even mean anything? But it has to mean something seems they are a couple pieces of visual art supporting this. And Joker does appear to Wonder in Mementos. And Joker says something striking to Wonder before he disappears.

I dig this twist. Having the two leaders of the Phantom Thieves sounds like a good new twist. And it would be interesting to see how two groups of Thieves interact with each other. Now I wouldn’t be surprised if the two groups ended working with each other. But having two groups of vigilantes go toe to toe with each other is a juicy prospect.

I am hoping that beyond these beta test that Phantom X will be available outside of China. This looks and runs too good to be in one region. And I want to play it!
