The Curious Case of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children’s Return

The sequel to the original game of FFVII returns to theaters before Rebirth’s release.

In a surprise move, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children will be returning to theaters. The sequel will be screening in Japanese theaters first. The screenings will be begun on January 19th to February 1st. The screening will be coming to the states on February 21st. This was discovered by social media users. The screenings will be a 4k remaster of the Advent Children Complete.

Advent Children is the sequel to the original Final Fantasy 7. Taking place two years after the events of the original game. Advent Children first came out in 2005. And an enhanced remaster called FF7 Advent Children was released in 2009. Unlike Final Fantasy X-2, Advent Children is a film and not a game.

My Thoughts

I am happy to see Advent Children is back in the spotlight. It is the best Final Fantasy movie in my opinion. I really like it when comes to CG visuals, the incredible fight scenes, and story themes.

However, I am not the biggest fan of the story. It does have some cool and heartfelt moments. But, the narrative is standard overall. The story does end with an incredible fight with a satisfying heartfelt conclusion though.

Why Now?

What confuses me about the re-screening of Advent Children is why Square Enix would do this? This is a film that is the sequel to the original game. You would figure that the film would be full of spoilers for the original FFVII and Remake. Plus, the film is coming out right before Rebirth, especially in the states.

Now developers have confirmed that the Remake trilogy will link with Advent Children. Also, the developers have also said that Advent Children's story is still canon. But how that will happen with Zack, the whispers, and other new elements? It's anyone's guess at this point.

These new screenings of Advent Children will have a new short on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The short will consist of interviews with the developers. New gameplay footage will also be part of the short.

I just hoping that it is not a final trailer by Square Enix. I love you, Square Enix. But your final trailers tend to have a lot of spoilers. So, here hoping that the footage will have little to no spoilers.

Honestly, I am crossed whether I wanted to see Advent Children. Or see the new Rebirth short in the game. But I know when Advent Children screening comes stateside. I will know that I will go see it anyway.
